Yesterday counts as last week, right?
Okay, okay. If you know me in real life, or follow me here—or anywhere on social media—you already know that yesterday was all about pizza cake. Yes, that sounds dramatic, but it was pizza cake. Two words. One delicious culinary masterpiece.
Hashtag dramatic. 😉
A few years ago, the legend of pizza cake started making its presence known around the internet, and as soon as I saw it, I knew I would have to promise myself to add it to the good old bucket list. (My food bucket list, yeah, but truth be told, the majority of my bucket list is made up of food quests anyway, so…)
This year’s #52things list became the perfect opportunity to finally make it. And eat it. And so, how did it rate? Pretty good, actually. Really good, in fact. My pre-pizza cake research paid off in that I acquired helpful tips to make sure each layer stood up to the sauce, cheese and heat; the process was made simpler because of my new food blog heroes who chose to post videos on YouTube and all over the web. God bless you, HealthyJunkFood guys! Oh, and thanks to Pillsbury for the original recipe. You people are doing God’s work. (Amen.)
And while we’re (er, I’m) bestowing blessings on the food heroes out there, how about some kudos to the actual person, the individual, who invented pizza cake?! I mean, I realize it’s first world food stuff here, but isn’t it a great time to be alive and eating! Who knows what culinary invention the next great food genius is working on right now. If the past is any indication (a few years ago I made lasagna out of ravioli!), the future will be just as delicious and dramatic. Just this week I was tagged in a video of someone who made a lasgana inside a pizza crust, and this morning I watched an entire video of a woman who baked a cake with three whole pies inside of it! Three pies inside of a multi-layered cake. It’s called a Cherpumple (and yes, I encourage you to Google it; better still, please message me if you make it.)
I realize now as I type this that the first two blog posts of “The best thing I ate last week…” involve pizza. Is that coincidence? Probably not. Will it be the last pizza reference? Definitely not. And so will I promise that I’ll try to focus on a different food group next week. Of course.
I can’t promise, however, that whatever next dish catches my fancy will be as dramatic as pizza cake. And rightly so.
Happy eating. I definitely was last week.
