The World is My Lobster…

“Luxurious lobster-nights, farewell, For sober, studious days!” ~Alexander Pope

I love Boston.

I first visited in 1994, on my own, to see a Boston Bruins game in old Boston Garden before they tore it down. (Yes, I have already blogged about this a bit…) I also ended up seeing a Celtics game during that trip, too, but my trips to Boston are all about hockey—or more specifically, my Bruins. Oh, and the lobster and clam chowder, too.

We arrived in Boston early Friday evening.
My visits to Boston are always about hockey. And food!

Luxurious lobster nights, as usual…

This trip was a quick one but before we even landed I knew that the best thing I would eat that week would be eaten in Boston.

Our flight landed in the early evening. Early enough to see both the sun set over the city that Friday night, and definitely early enough to have a large dinner at Legal Sea Foods.

Legal is one of our favorite stops. It is a restaurant chain, but a quality chain and they are known for the quality of their food, the seafood especially. They have never let me down, and we usually start to think about the clam chowder as soon as we get off the plane. If not sooner.

To Boston!
Or not. I did not share my Rum baba, my cream puff or my lemon meringue tarts.

Farewell, to the usual…

I’m not going to lie, I can be pretty predictable when it comes to eating in Boston.

Because Boston is—outside of my home state of Texas—my most visited city in the United States, I tend to go to the same delicious places when I visit. Kinda like in your own hometown, when you vow to try new places, but somehow end up at your usual favorites more often than not.

Not this time, though! Some friends recommended a few places I hadn’t been to before and so Peter and I decided to check them out.

Ready for a full day of Bruins, beer and more lobster.
My friend Risa recommended we try Modern Pastry Shop, instead of our usual stop at Mike’s Pastry, up the street.
Got that Modern Pastry Box tied up with red and white string!
My treats from Modern Pastry: a chocolate eclair, a lemon square and a ricotta cannoli. Oh, my goodness! Everything was so good. I can’t wait to go back.

Modern Pastry did not disappoint at all!

Neither did Yankee Lobster Co. which was also recommended by a friend, who is a local.

Yankee’s clam chowder was really, really excellent!
Oh, these chunks of lobster were amazing. Maybe the best lobster roll I’ve ever had.
The Bruins lost the game, but the lobster and beer made me feel better.

(Not so) sober, (not so) studious days…

While my Boston Bruins lost the game, the quick trip to Boston was still a blast. We ate, we drank, and we ate and drank some more.

At least I did. And when it comes to Boston, I’ll be doing so again.

See you in June, Boston!

The longest and strongest loves + obsessions of my life have always been reading, writing, eating and traveling—and the adventures both big and small that have involved any or all of these. Whether by myself, with those I love most, or the new friends made along the way, my goal is to taste all the world has to offer. One adventure at a time.
