Once upon a time, there was a girl who ate pretty well last week.
I usually do eat well this time of year. In fact, the week before I leave for my annual end of July vacation is always an adventure in trying to eat all the things I’ll miss when I’m gone. Even though I won’t be gone that long. I mean, I can live without my favorite Tex-Mex plate and lemon donuts for two weeks, right? Maybe. Maybe not (so well).
At any rate, the best thing I ate was one of my favorite bacon cheeseburgers from a local place in San Antonio called Chris Madrid’s. It’s been around forever and they’re basically known for the cheesiest burgers in town.
I’m pretty sure they could give most burger joints anywhere a run for their cheese money.
The Porky’s Delight comes with oh, so much cheese and bacon. A must for this girl. And as someone who is on a quest to find the best bacon cheeseburger in the world, I often think that it just might be that I don’t have to travel too far. This burger is definitely a contender, and a good reason to keep going back to get my pre-vacation burger fix.
Besides the amazing burgers, the original restaurant had great nachos, fries, and a popular happy hour with a bar full of your favorite cold beers and margaritas, plus all the chips and salsa you could handle. A recent fire has them serving burgers out of a food truck (yes, the above was made in a food truck!), but I heard last week that they’ll be back in the original building in October. And even though the food truck and adjacent tent are fine temporarily, it’ll be good to be able to sit down again at a real table and remember when the late Chris Madrid himself used to walk around and thank people for their business. He hasn’t been around for a few years now, but I’m sure he’d be glad to know that his burgers are still among some of the best things people ate last week. It was definitely the best thing I ate last week.
And that best thing was good to the very last bite. I love a good happy ending.
