the best things I eat...

Side dishes are my side hustle…

Well, I am behind again. I’ve been so busy working on my Win Lose or Pie adventure and gathering my notes and thoughts that I haven’t written my weekly “best thing I ate last week” posts. But I will catch up. After all, this is my blog. My blog, my rules, right? 🙂

Blanco Cafe serves their soft tacos smothered in queso. Smothered in queso!

What I remember most about this particular week is Taco Tuesday at Blanco Cafe and the fact that they serve a side of carne guisada. A side of carne guisada! You can order anything else on the menu and then get a side of carne guisada! Where has this been all my life?!

So, here you are, ordering an entree of anything else, and you can still add a side of carne guisada! I ordered the plate that came with a soft taco (again, smothered in queso!), a chalupa and a crispy taco.

I think that’s it. Carne guisada. On the side. It’s such a simple move, yet full of all kind of genius. It has to be the best thing I ate.

Two sides of carne guisada. One belonged to my best friend. Not pictured (I’m sad to say) are the excellent flour tortillas they serve at Blanco Cafe in San Antonio.

Chances are high that on any given week when I eat carne guisada, you could end up seeing it here as the best thing I ate. The fact that this was introduced to me in a new way on a menu of a local restaurant on Taco Tuesday made it that much more special and definitely the best thing I ate.

Carry on, Blanco Cafe. You’re doing God’s work. XO

The longest and strongest loves + obsessions of my life have always been reading, writing, eating and traveling—and the adventures both big and small that have involved any or all of these. Whether by myself, with those I love most, or the new friends made along the way, my goal is to taste all the world has to offer. One adventure at a time.
